Utah Adventures

I really liked having Royce with me in Bountiful for Christmas break. We did such exciting things (as opposed to just sitting around at home). Things such as visiting the prophets' graves (we had to jump a fence to see Brigham Young's grave--oops!), playing games with my siblings (Settlers, Guitar Hero), going swimming (he had to beg and plead for me to do that one, but it was fun), and other fun events, of which I have photographic proof.

We tried on random coats from my parents' coat closet. The one I'm wearing is my 10-year-old nieces coat. Looks good, eh? The faux fur definitely makes me look about 20 pounds heavier. Royce is wearing a Guatemalan jacket. Now why haven't those made a comeback?

This is at the Planetarium. I think this is supposed to be an ice planet? Looks real, huh!

That's right, folks. We frequented the "Worlds First KFC"! Right in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Here's Royce with Colonel Sanders and Mr. Harman.

More evidence that this is, indeed, the world's first KFC.

I think this is the original sign.

This is one of Colonel Sanders suits! I think we're going to get Royce a suit like that for the wedding!

Some of the tables have pictures and memorabilia underneath the glass. So you can enjoy greasy fried food and get a history lesson at the same time!

This last picture is in front of the Mrs. Cavanaugh's chocolate factory. It's right off of I-215 on your way to Bountiful. And for the record, it's definitely worth a stop. You get 2 free chocolates. That's right, 2! Per person! (Actually, we lucked out and got 4 free chocolates each.)

Texas Adventures

Can you believe that I'm so on top of it that I'm posting about Christmas break, and it's not even February yet?! Wow.

So on Christmas Day, Royce and I flew to Texas. Here is a sampling of what Christmas is like in Texas.

Very festive!

I think the day after Christmas we went to this place called Fossil Rim. I have no clue where it's located. I just know it took us about an hour and a half to get there from Southlake, which is between Dallas and Fortworth. Anyway, if you ever get a chance you should definitely go. It's a little pricey, but it's totally worth it (speaking of, did we ever pay your parents back Royce?).

Here's a picture of some of the people that went. Royce's mom is in the middle. You can see why Royce is so tall! His brother Robert is on her other side, and this random kid Jose is the other one.

So Fossil Rim is kind of like a zoo, except you stay in your car and most of the animals are not in cages (the cheetas, unfortunately, were caged up the day we were there). You can buy a bag of feed for like $400, and then you can hand feed the animals! You're actually supposed to drop it on the ground, but I think the animals are used to eating out of peoples' hands. I did not feed the animals.

This may be the ostrich that bit Royce.

The giraffes usually get to come out, but it was too cold the day we were there, so they have to keep them locked up by their heated building. Cynthia (Royce's mom) was really sad--she really wanted to see the giraffes up close.

Not to worry. We had zebras practically inside the car.

I think I took about 20 pictures of the zebras. Apparently I really like zebras. I was not aware of this.

This guy looks pretty cool. Sorry it's all blurry. It was taken through the car window.

I wonder if curly horns are like curly hair--some people/animals are just born with it, while others are born with straight hair/horns? I've heard that some women's hair becomes curly when they become pregnant. Weird!

So that was a little glimpse of our exciting adventure. Definitely one of the highlights of the entire break for me!

Royce's version

I promise, pictures of the ring will be coming soon. But I just wanted to let you know that Royce posted his version of the story. You will all want to read it HERE.

Fabulous fun with the Fitz's

So I was determined to finally post all those Christmas break pictures I've been promising. But alas, I realized that I don't have my computer with me. See, Royce and I came down to Vegas for the weekend since we don't have school tomorrow. (Hallelujah!) So yet again, I am postponing that particular post. In the meantime I will tell you about the incredible, random, experience we had this morning.

Part of the reason we came to Vegas was to see our friends Ryan and Amy (who most of you know--Amy is actually the one who set us up). And sometime during the course of our evening last night, Ryan mentioned that a mission buddy of his had called up wondering if he could fill in for him to help this guy get his hot air balloon up in the morning. Ryan didn't know if we would want to go, seeing as it is Sunday and he wasn't sure how long it would take. But we were all up for it, especially because of the possibility of getting to ride in it. I think I said something along the lines of, "I think that'd be worth missing church for." Can you believe what a heathen I am?

So early this morning (to be exact, at around 6:00 am), we headed out to South? Las Vegas. The directions were something like, "Turn at the first paved road after such-and-such place, and then go to the first dirt lot . . . " There were several dirt lots. But eventually we found the guy (we got there too soon and drove around for a little bit).

Here we are doing a whole lot of nothing. It was a pretty tiny basket. We helped lay out all those blue tarps though!

This is the balloon. It was really, really long.

We had to step on part of the balloon, and hold the other part while they filled it up with air. My hands got really cold. It made me kind of nervous too because the balloon started lifting my foot up, but they told me I had to keep it down.

Here's Ryan holding the balloon.

It's almost all the way filled here.

We were all hoping to have a chance to ride, but he (Ron) was supposed to be taking out a couple who were celebrating their anniversary or something. When the thing was about ready to go, he got a call saying they were running late, so he asked if we wanted to go. I definitely wasn't going to refuse.

Royce and I got to go first. It made me a little bit nervous because we're both pretty tall and that fire wasn't very high above my head (and even closer to Royce's!) Plus, I'm usually afraid of heights, but this was incredible. You just floated up (obviously . . . ), but it wasn't really what I expected. You didn't really feel like you were moving. The way I described it (which is really cheesy) is it feels like you're a cloud.

Here we are, about to take off.

Ryan and Amy, from the air.

Here's the view with two other balloons in the background.

Houses.

Anyway, it was pretty snug in there, so I had my back to Royce so I could see out and so I could talk to the guy and ask my millions of questions. Royce started to get restless (I was worried that he was getting sick or something), and pretty soon I heard/felt him crouch down behind me, so I turned around. And all at once I hear him say "Heather, I love you so much, will you marry me?" and see him kneeling with a ring box extended toward me. I was in shock--in a half seconds time I was trying to figure out when he had picked up the ring (he kept telling me we would have to pick it up next Friday when we were in Salt Lake for my mom's birthday), and how long he had been carrying it around waiting for the right moment to propose--so I blurted out something like, "Are you kidding me?!" I don't know what else I said, but then Royce queried, "Are you going to say yes?" And so then, not knowing what else to say, I said, "Yes!" And then he put the ring on my finger and in those close quarters, with Ron half a foot away, we kissed and told each other how much we loved each other! And Royce cried (sorry for telling on you, but it was so sweet). I didn't cry, mostly I think because I was so surprised.

And then Ron said, "All of this was planned." To which I said, "Really? Really?!" I think I asked Royce too, "Did you really plan all of this?" And he confirmed that he had, and then I was finally convinced. You think I would have caught on sooner. You think I would have realized that it was way too weird that some random guy would need help getting his hot air balloon up, especially when his crew of like 4 or 5 other people showed up. But I didn't suspect a thing. I totally thought Royce had just seized the opportunity. Apparently I'm totally trusting and maybe even a little bit gullible. Thank goodness--it makes for much better surprises.

On the ground.

They handed me a flower when we landed. After we finished packing up the balloon, they set up a tablecloth on the tailgate, had sparkling cider for us, and a mini wedding-looking cake, with a fancy cake-cutter!

A toast--to love! (Ha! Cheesy)

Our celebration dinner--with the Dr. Thunder as the honorary drink (which no one drank).

I do have to apologize for announcing our engagement this way on my blog (and this is for real this time). I just thought it would be more fun for you all to be surprised too (unless you're opposite of me and were suspicious throughout). So save the date--April 26th! I can't wait. I seriously feel like the luckiest girl alive. I've been waiting 26 years for this guy to come along, and everything has really happened just like it was meant to be! If you haven't met him yet, I can't wait for you to. I may convince him to post his version of the story on his blog, so stay tuned.

To Heather From Royce

I’m sorry I am not perfect for you yet. I am sorry I left without a word tonight. I am sorry I am lazy. I am sorry I make you do things you may not want to do. I am sorry I can’t be next to your side always. I love you so much. I am nothing without you. I am sorry I make you cry and made you cry.

I didn’t leave tonight because I was mad, frustrated, sad, or anything else. I call it zamboyled. I am all feelings, but no certain feeling. It was just a long day and I don’t blame you for anything and don’t want you to think that. I don’t know what I’d do without you or how I’d go on without you. I’d probably die quickly because I’d run out of money from buying food because I’d never be fed for one. For two I’d fail all my classes because you wouldn’t be there editing my work (you are probably having a hay day with this now), For three I just don’t think other women are as great and wonderful and good looking and nice and kind and loving and Christ-like and fun and picky ( :-) ) and spoiled ( :-) ) as you are! I love who you are and am so excited to continue to get to know you better and become closer to you through the years. You are my best friend. You are my all and everything. I am so grateful to have someone so much smarter and cooler and more personable and more loving than I can ever hope to be.

I love that you talk to people for me when I don’t want to.

I love that you’ll go through the lengths of pain watching/playing my dumb movies, tv shows, video games, etc.

I love that you would try sushi for me.

I love that you want to take care of me when its me that needs to take care of you.

I love that you bought me boots because my feet were cold.

I love that you don’t care if I am wimp/wuss and can barely tolerate snow shoeing with you.

I love that you are always willing to come to my house when I hardly ever go to yours.

I love that you are willing to expand every idea that you have just because I am ornery and don’t want to make plans.

I love that you take my teasing and tickling.

I love that you take my abusing your password privileges (even now).

I don’t know why I am so lucky to have you and how I’ve been so clever to trick you this long in liking me.

I miss you when you are away and my thoughts are with you.

I love you and can’t wait to be married to you even though we aren’t even engaged and won’t be for just under a month.

I hope you still love me to even though I’ve given you every reason not to and am way below your league.

I love you I love you I love you.

Seven Blogs

For those of you that haven't been paying attention to my blog I've put up like 7 posts in one night some with EXCITING news!

My Engagement Story!!!!

MARRY ME HEATHER!!!!

NEW PICTURES

Here is the first picture I took with my digital camera. It's of my boyfriend:

More to come!!

What my true love gave to me!

On the 12th day before Christmas, my true love (aka Royce) started giving me a gift a day. Not to make any of you jealous but . . . here's what he gave to me.

12th day before Christmas:

Nickels for the Nickelcade.

11th:
One of my favorite cereals. If you haven't tried any Kashi because it looks a little weird, just give it a chance. They're really great.

10th:
Not just one dozen, but two! Unfortunately I didn't have a digital camera at the time he gave those to me, so those aren't actually the flowers he got, but they looked something akin to that.

9th:
He actually got these in NY.

8th:
I had a yoga DVD by this same guy, but I was getting tired of it. It will be a long time before I get tired of this one. It's twice as long and twice or three times as hard. I love it!

7th:
The scarf I'm wearing as we speak.

6th:
Isn't Nutella great on just about anything having to do with bread.

5th:
This was more of a joke (he's taking it back). Every time those commercials came on during conference we joked about how I couldn't wait to go. (Nothing wrong with it--just definitely not for me.)

4th . . . hasn't come in the mail yet. So he got me some stuff from Rite-Aid while I was shopping for umbrellas. He got me: Blistex lip ointment (I go through it like crazy), a Symphony bar, and a random postcard of deer. I should have taken a picture of those too, but I just didn't think of it.

3rd:
I really like Zupas. For those of you unfamiliar with it, that's really unfortunate.

2nd:
She's one of the most outstanding violinist's right now. Isn't he thoughtful.

The day before Christmas:
Passes to Disneyland! (in case you couldn't tell). We were supposed to go over the break, but we didn't quite make it to California. Sad.

And on Christmas:
There are other pictures of us behind, so I can alternate them.

Anyway, he's just about the best ever, don't you think?
